5 Truman Capote Wrote Horizontally

A pioneering force in publishing and the world of celebrity, best-selling author Truman Capote did his best work on his back. He wrote the first drafts of all of his work in longhand while drinking coffee, tea, and eventually cocktails as the day progressed. Capote wouldn’t begin or end a piece of work on a Friday, would change hotel rooms if the room phone number involved number 13 and never left more than three cigarette butts in his ashtray, tucking the extra ones into his coat pocket.
He also wrote in the nude—hopefully only on his couch.
