This 98-Year-Old Yoga Teacher is As Fit As Any Adult Yoga Teacher


Yoga is a fitness regime which originated from India but now is practiced world-wide. In addition to your physical fitness it is also responsible for your mental and spiritual upkeep. June 21st is celebrated as the International Yoga Day by the United Nations Organization.

A 98 year old woman from Tamil Nadu is believed to be one of the oldest person living there and how she has achieved this is really amazing.

MEET NANAMMAL

 

This woman from Tamil Nadu still practices Yoga and also teaches people from every age group. She developed an interest in Yoga when she was just 8 years old. Her father and grand-father both taught Yoga and after her marriage she also learned Yoga from her father-in-law.

Her Inspiration

 

As a child she saw children practice yoga asanas and as a result she too started. according to her,”In those days  Yoga was considered as a village exercise.”

Silabam winner:

 

Yoga was in her genes, so at the age of 14 she participated in the Silabum contest and won.

Love for Naturopathy

 

Agriculture was her husband’s main occupation and as the family grew enough vegetables and grains, her love for naturopathy developed. Her diet contained enough calcium and fibers and she continues this practice even today.

Her Diet

 

After waking up she drinks half a liter of water and brushes her teeth with neem sticks. She consumes milk with honey and turmeric and includes a lot of fruits in her diet.

Credits Yoga for long life:

 

Nanammal has never had any health problem, she says,”I still live strong and healthy due to my love for the exercise and i neither went to a hospital nor used any medicine till now.”

World Record:

 

Not long ago Nanammal tried to get her name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Her Objective:

 

She wants to make people aware about Yoga and focuses mainly on young girls and women. According to her she wants to address the health problems of the people.

Ideology

 

Nanammal says there’s nothing that can’t be accomplished in life. In addition to the members of her family she has trained 600 students who are now spreading the knowledge and art of Yoga.

Simplistic:

 

Nanammal lives a simple life and never wears any special dresses for yoga. “I do yoga before i go to bed and i do yoga with my students when i get up in the morning. I wake up at 4:30 am every day. I go to bed early,” she told ‘Deccan Chronicle’.
